Manufacto 21-22
DISCOVERING THE INTELLIGENCE OF THE HAND
Created by the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès, Manufacto, the Skills Factory, is an original program designed to introduce schoolchildren to craft trades.
In the
schoolyear 2022-2023, some college students from the Dulcie September secondary
school in Créteil made their own pouf, meticulously carrying out the stages of
cutting, punching, foam cutting, leather threading, sewing and final assembly.
Clémence Berryer, a decorative upholsterer and leatherworker, and Tobie
Chevallier guided them through the process, passing on their passion and
expertise.
Manufacto takes place in 12 2-hour sessions taking place at the school and spread across the academic year. Teamwork, rigor, patience, perseverance and awareness of the risks involved in using high-quality tools are at the heart of the learning process. This program transformed the way students look at craft, gave them a sense of responsibility and the pride of leaving school with a valuable object they made themselves.
