Oculus lamp
THE EYE AND LIGHT, A GAME OF HIDE AND SEEK
The Oculus lamp is a wall light. As its name suggests, the Oculus lamp is a wall light architecturally inspired by the shape and constitution of the human eye. This element can be interpreted in two ways: from the inside-out it is a shaft of light, from the outside-in it represents the iris and the pupil.
In
this project, the play of light and shadow can also evoke the effect of an
eclipse. The daylight enhances the regular veins of linden wood, which are
circled with white. When the lamp is on at night, the sinuous veins of the
paper called Amate (handmade with Ficus tree bark) radiate around the central
wood disc.
The Oculus lamp was created for the architectural designer duo : Studio 2a. It is designed according to a mechanical interlocking principle allowing the adjusted setting of a simple sheet of paper between two turned pieces of wood. The latter then remains adjustable and interchangeable if necessary.
